Who are the people of the church?
We are an open group of imperfect people from all walks of life. We believe God made us exactly as we are and loves us unconditionally. We are passionate about our community and social justice and hold a desire to connect with God in a variety of ways.
What is the United Methodist Church?
Methodism dates back to 1730 where it began as a small group at Oxford University. John Wesley, the founder of the Methodist Church, was the son of a pastor and his mother was very involved in social justice actions of the times and truly exhibited how to be the hands and feet of Jesus. Through small groups the Methodist church began through active engagement in our world.
We are a part of the California, Nevada Annual Conference in the Western Jurisdiction. The western jurisdiction is affirming to all people and believe the current language of the Methodist Book of Discipline causes harm to God’s children. We are an active part of changing this language to make it affirming to all.
Taken from the Western Jurisdiction website: “Foundational to the emerging vision of the Western Jurisdiction is the denominational mission of making disciples for Jesus Christ. The various elements of the following vision all move us in the direction of making disciples: A home for all God’s people, gathered around a table of reconciliation and transformation: the Western Jurisdiction of The United Methodist Church is multicultural and inclusive, engaged in the life of its communities, with confident, effective lay and clergy leadership who, in diverse ministry settings, form disciples who live out the Good News of Jesus as global citizens.”
